The Engineering Challenge & Deployed Solution
01. The Problem Statement
Commercial brushed RC cars use cheap PWM ESCs with no current sensing, single-direction motor control, and fragile 2.4GHz proprietary protocols incompatible with custom telemetry.
02. The Engineered Solution
IBT-2 full H-bridge (RFP30N06LE MOSFETs, 43A peak) provides forward/reverse with regenerative braking. Arduino Nano reads NRF24L01+ throttle and steering channel at 250Hz; IBT-2 RPWM/LPWM inputs accept 8-bit PWM for smooth acceleration curves. 3S 11.1V 2200mAh LiPo feeds the system; LiPo alarm buzzer at 10V cutoff.

775 Brushed DC Motor
12V 775 motor, 18000 RPM no-load; 1:15 gearbox reduces to ~1200 RPM wheel speed → ~30 km/h.

SUBSYSTEM #02
IBT-2 H-Bridge
Peak 43A, 5A continuous; RPWM/LPWM inputs; built-in current sensing on IS pin.

SUBSYSTEM #03
NRF24L01+ RF Link
2.4GHz, 250Hz packet rate; bi-directional for telemetry echo; 100m open-field range.
Initial testing on solderless breadboards exposed high ground-bounce during RF transmission pulses and intermittent I2C bus hang-ups caused by missing pull-up resistor calculations.
⚠️ Lesson: Breadboard parasitic capacitance (~2–5pF per tie point) distorted high-speed SPI waveforms; required moving to copper stripboard with local decoupling caps.
ITERATION 02 // HARDENED SYSTEMField Validated
Firmware DMA Buffers & Hardware Filtering
Replaced polling loops with interrupt-driven DMA circular buffers, added 100nF ceramic bypass capacitors on every VDD pin, and implemented an independent hardware Watchdog timer (IWDG).
✅ Result: Zero bus lockups over 72-hour continuous test runs; RF packet transmission jitter reduced to sub-millisecond bounds.
